The word “victory” is everywhere in Moscow these days. It is being projected from gargantuan LED screens alongside major intersections and highways and written on red flags whipping in the wind. It’s prominent at an exhibit of Western weapons destroyed on Ukrainian battlefields and lugged back to Moscow as war trophies on display in — where else? “Together, we will be victorious!” Mr. Putin said at his inauguration last week after securing a fifth term as president. Two days later, the country celebrated Victory Day, Russia’s most important public holiday, which commemorates the Soviet contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.

Even during the ceasefire, they didn't find a solution to the water problem," said Rami al-Rizek, displaced with his family from their home in Gaza City. "The truce is the time to lift the rubble and search for all the missing people and bury them. What use is the truce if the bodies remain under the rubble?" Israel responded with aerial bombardment and a ground assault on Gaza, killing more than 15,000 people, around 40% of them children, according to Gazan health officials. Another Khan Younis resident, Ahmed al-Najjar, said of the truce: "Four days are not enough, and forty days are not enough, and four years will not be enough to get over the pain."

Harrison Ford has been donning the fedora and cracking the whip of the daring tomb-raider Indiana Jones for more than 40 years. The series' latest installment, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," leans on myths from ancient Greece about a device that can supposedly turn back the hands of time. Indiana Jones suddenly looked generations younger — perfect for the movie's opening sequence, set during World War II. Founded in 1975 by celebrated "Star Wars" creator Geroge Lucas, ILM — a division of Lucasfilm, which also produces "Indiana Jones" — is at the forefront of this new Hollywood frontier. One of the team's biggest achievements has been speeding up the timeline by which filmmakers can implement these tools, Bredow said.

During one of the most extreme heat waves Europe has had this summer, executives in suits dashed from cabs into Milan’s air-conditioned offices, while tourists sipped mimosas under clouds of cooling vapor in the Bar at Ralph Lauren. Below the darkened windows, delivery riders cycled under the sun to shuttle sushi and poke bowls to office buildings. And along the highway that connects Milan to the seaside, laborers wore safety vests on bare, sunburned chests as they lugged buckets of concrete in the scorching heat. Temperatures in southern Europe have climbed past 40 degrees Celsius, or 104 Fahrenheit, with higher figures expected on Wednesday. While everyone was feeling the scorching weather, the heat wave has also highlighted a deep divide — between those who can afford to shelter from it, and those who cannot.

If there is a symbol of Ukrainian insouciance in the face of clear and present danger, it might just be this city. Nikopol lies within four miles of the besieged nuclear plant, but if you arrived on Monday and took a walk around, you might be fooled into thinking things were normal. People waited at bus stops, lugged heavy plastic bags as they exited supermarkets, pushed strollers down sidewalks. Not only is Nikopol a hair’s breadth from the nuclear power plant, it also gets shelled nearly every day by Russian troops just across the river. But about half the city’s prewar population of 100,000 still lives here, and there was no visible exodus, despite all the recent warnings of impending doom.

GLASTONBURY, England, June 21 (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of music fans streamed into Worthy Farm in southwest England on Wednesday at the start of Glastonbury, the beloved music festival that will feature Elton John, Guns N' Roses and the Arctic Monkeys this weekend. Elated fans wore sun hats and lugged camping gear to the site of the world's biggest open-air arts and music festival, primed to witness hundreds of acts over five days culminating in British singer Elton John's last ever UK show on Sunday night. Heavy showers fell over the 900-acre grassy expanse of Glastonbury on Wednesday, although fans, many equipped with Wellington boots to wade through muddy fields, appeared undeterred. Glastonbury, founded by Michael Eavis 53 years ago, typically sells out before any headliners have been announced, given the strength of previous line-ups. "I've done a festival before but I've never managed to get my tickets here," said Glastonbury first-timer Hemmings.

A former WH aide detailed the flow of intelligence documents to the Situation Room during Trump's last days. In a new transcript, she described how Trump allies including Meadows sought boxes of documents from congress. "On December 31st — or December 30th — we got all the documents, Hutchinson told the committee in a May 17, 2022 interview. "And why would they need to bring them to the White House to look into them?" "I don't know," she answered, maintaining that she never took part in the meetings between the White House officials and Republican allies, despite her top security clearance.
An appeals court ruled that a Special Master must stop reviewing Trump's Mar-a-Lago documents. Trump succeeded in having lower courts appoint a Special Master, delaying a federal investigation. The Special Master was set to review thousands of classified documents that the former president kept. In September, Florida Judge Aileen Cannon had appointed a special master in September, which the Justice Department appealed and which drew criticism from the Appeals court judges in their Thursday ruling. The move to appoint a special master opened an unprecedented Pandora's box of concerns for national security experts.

Mamadi Doumbouya for The New York Times Talk Bono Is Still Trying to Figure Out U2 and HimselfThere are different Bonos to different people, including the man himself. You say, “But you’re U2 — you don’t need that.” What’s interesting is that we want that. But I also wrote the book to try to figure out what was going on with U2. They sound like U2 songs. Do they sound like U2 songs?
The special master will have to wait a little longer to get his hands on files lugged to Mar-a-Lago. None of the five vendors the DOJ suggested to scan docs wanted to work with Trump, per a new filing. The DOJ asked for one more day to choose someone to digitize 11,000 files for the special master. According to new court documents filed Tuesday, the DOJ is asking special master Raymond Dearie for an additional day to turn over non-classified documents in the investigation. In its latest filing, the DOJ also prodded Trump's team to submit an inventory list of the materials seized by the FBI.
